Ghosts and ghouls are fun at Halloween. A website that scares away customers isn’t. If people visit your site but rarely get in touch, one of these could be the culprit.
1. The vanishing call to action
If visitors can’t immediately see what to do next, most won’t do anything. Every page needs one clear next step, such as “Book a call” or “Get a quote”, in a button that stands out.
2. The never-ending form
Long forms with lots of required fields put people off. Ask for only what you need to start the conversation: usually name, email, phone and a short message.
3. The slow-loading spectre
If your pages take more than a few seconds to load, especially on mobile, many visitors will leave before they see anything. Compress images and remove anything you don’t need.
4. The mystery business
Within a few seconds, visitors should know what you do, who it’s for and why you’re different. If your homepage is vague, they’ll go somewhere clearer.
5. The trust-free zone
Reviews, case studies, team photos and clear pricing all reassure people. A site without them can feel risky to enquire through.
6. The broken journey
Ads that land on the wrong page, links that go nowhere and forms that don’t send. Test your site regularly, as if you were a customer.
Exorcise the problems
The good news is that most of these are quick to fix, and fixing them often brings more enquiries without spending a penny more on ads.
