“Post every day” is one of the most repeated pieces of social media advice out there. And for a busy business owner, it’s also one of the most exhausting.
Here’s the thing: posting frequency on its own isn’t a strategy. It’s an output. Without a plan behind it, daily posting can burn you out and still not bring in a single customer.
What a strategy actually includes
1. A clear goal
Do you want more enquiries, more website visits, more people booking a call, or more brand awareness in your local area? Each goal needs a different approach.
2. A clear audience
Who are you talking to? What do they care about, what problems do they have and where do they spend time online? Posting for “everyone” usually means connecting with no one.
3. Content themes
Instead of starting from a blank page every day, pick three to five themes that support your goal. For example: behind the scenes, tips and advice, client results, meet the team and offers. Rotate through them.
4. A realistic rhythm
Three great posts a week will beat seven rushed ones. Choose a frequency you can keep up for months, not just a fortnight.
5. A way to measure success
Track the things that link back to your goal: clicks, enquiries, DMs and saves, not just likes.
Quality over quantity
The algorithms on every major platform reward content that people engage with. One post that gets saved, shared and commented on does more for you than a week of posts people scroll straight past.
Plan, batch and schedule
The businesses that stay consistent aren’t sitting down every morning wondering what to post. They plan a month at a time, create content in batches and schedule it in advance. That frees up time to actually engage with the people who comment and message.
So how often should you post?
As often as you can while keeping quality high and staying consistent. For most small businesses, that’s somewhere between three and five times a week on their main platform. Start there, track what works and adjust.
