We talk a lot about what businesses should start doing with their marketing. But some of the quickest wins come from what you stop doing.
Autumn is the perfect time for a clear-out. Before the Q4 rush, take an honest look at what’s draining your time and budget, and let it go.
1. Campaigns nobody is watching
Ads that were set up months ago and left running are one of the most common budget leaks we see. Audiences change, costs creep up and what worked in spring might be wasting money now.
Do this: pull up every active campaign and ask one question: what did this bring in last month? If you can’t answer, pause it until you can.
2. Tools you’re paying for and never use
Scheduling apps, design subscriptions, analytics platforms, email tools you tried once. These small monthly costs add up fast.
Do this: list every marketing subscription on your card statement. Cancel anything you haven’t logged into in the last 60 days.
3. Pages that don’t convert
Every page on your website should have a job. If a page gets traffic but never leads to an enquiry, it needs a clearer call to action, a rewrite or to be merged into something stronger.
Do this: check your top ten pages in Google Analytics. Do they all tell visitors what to do next?
4. Channels that aren’t right for you
You don’t need to be everywhere. If you’re spreading yourself across five social platforms and none of them are working, focus on the one or two where your customers actually spend time.
5. Content for the sake of content
Posting because you feel you should, without a plan or a purpose, rarely moves the needle. It’s better to post less and make every piece count.
What to keep (and do more of)
Once you’ve cleared the clutter, look at what’s left. What brought in enquiries? Which posts got people talking? Which campaigns paid for themselves? That’s where your time and budget should go next.
Out with what’s not working. In with what pays.
